Running technique
Running technique is something that very few people pay attention to, but which is super important (especially when you are just getting started) to avoid injuries and the like.
In the video below, I give some tips & tricks on the most common mistakes I see among (novice) runners.
The first topic I want to touch on this week is “Foot landing“. When you start running, you naturally develop a kind of landing of your foot. Therefore, there is no “right” or “wrong” way of landing, but there are some other things it is best to pay attention to when you start running AND/OR often suffer from shins. Be sure to watch the video below for more information on this.
Foot landing
Your foot landing is one working point you can focus on. Another point can also be the way you walk, i.e. “active vs passive”. Not so sure what I mean by this? Then be sure to check out the video below.
Active VS passive
Of course there are many other things you can focus on (cadence, vertical ratio, contact time with the ground, …) BUT I think it’s important as a coach that you get the basics really right first and then you can start looking at these little details.
If your basics are not right, there is no point in focusing on these other factors either. Both “foot landing” and “active vs passive” are two working points where I see a lot of runners (both novice and experienced) going wrong. Should you still like to read more about these other areas of improvement, I have prepared some links of interest for you below.
